Hey dog lovers,
Fourth of July is tomorrow, many people choose to celebrate this holiday with family and friends. Using fireworks and other loud noise makers. We all want to have a fun and safe 4th. To ensure this happens I have compiled a list of Tips for the day!
Keep your pet indoors at all times!– loud noises can spook your dog and can cause they to jump fences or find new ways to escape.
Don’t put insect repellant on your pet that isn’t specifically for pet use – human sunscreen can cause drooling, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive thirst and lethargy. Deet can cause neurological issues as well.
Alcoholic Drinks Are Poisonous to Pets – fermented hops and ethanol are poisonous to dogs and cats
Going to fireworks display? Leave your pet at home- the safest place for your pet is at home, not in a crowded unfamiliar and noisy place which can cause unnecessary stress, which can cause brain damage or heat stroke.
Have your pet properly identified – if they happen to escape or become lost the proper id can help you get them back quicker and safer to you. Consider a microchip as well. Also try to carry a photo with you of your pet if they happen to get lost.
Keep your pet away from glow jewelry – although they look adorable in it, pets can chewy up and swallow the plastic adornments.
Never use Fireworks around pets – can result in severe burns or trauma to the face and paws they can also be hazardous as some contain toxins such as arsenic, potassium nitrate, and other heavy metals.
Don’t give your pet “table food) – some can harm your pet such as chocolate or beer. Others are onions, coffee, avocado, grapes, raisins, salt and yeast.
Lighter Fluid and matches are harmful to pets– chlorates are harmful chemical substance found n some matches that if ingested can cause difficulty breathing, damage blood cells or even cause kidney failure. Lighter fluid can sustain skin irritation, gastric problems and repository If inhaled.
Citronella Insect control products harm pets too – oils, candles, insect coils and other citronella based repellents are irrigating toxins to pets according to ASPCA. They can result in severe respiratory illnesses such as pneumonia, and ingesting can harm your pets nervous system
