Hey dog lovers,
Today I talk about how to teach your dog to play fetch and actually return it back to you. This is something most dogs are capable of doing. It comes more natural to dogs who have a high play drive or work drive. Examples are herding dogs and Labs.
The Basics: Come
Teach your dog to come start with no distractions then slowly introduce distractions. Once you can reliably call your dog you are ready to start turning it into a game.
How to Teach your Dog to Fetch
- Introduce the Fetch Toy
- Move the Fetch Toy around
- Get your dog to grab the fetch toy
- Play little games of indoor fetch
- Add some words
- Take the game of fetch outside
