Since the holiday season is a time to reflect on the past year and many dog lovers look for ways to give back to their local animal shelter. In fact one way to give back is by becoming a shelter Santa.
What is a Shelter Santa? Simply put it is when you work with your local shelter to gather donations for them around the holiday season. However this can also be done year round.
Find a Local Shelter
Simply drive around the surrounding towns and your own or simply google search local shelters in the area. Look into the shelter and make sure they align with your goals.
Contact that Shelter
Most shelters have a contact page where you can send them an email through a form or list an email or phone number to contact them.
Create a List
Work with the shelter to create a list through Amazon. This makes it easy for all donations to go directly to the shelter. Also make sure to utilize the Amazon Smile program. This list can consist of paper products, treats, food, toys and bedding needed to keep the shelter comfortable for the animals.
Create a Card
I recommend using Vistaprint as they typically have 100 for $20 or less. On the card include the Shelter Name, website and link to amazon wish list. Hand out these cards when you are walking your dog or simply see a dog owner. You can also make virtual cards if needed to share on social media as well.
It is important to remember this can be done all year round. By building a relationship with a shelter is a great way to support your community and help those in need.
