Owning a cat and dog can be an enjoyable or stressful experience depending on the temperament and drive of the dog and cat.  Making sure that both animals have their safe space is key to creating a good relationship between them. Make sure you understand and watch for stress signs and any aggression. if needed bring in a professional trainer to help assist in the steps of them meeting. Raise them Together 

The best way to get dogs and cats to coexist is to raise them together. Puppies are more easily trainable and can learn to respect cats’ space more than older dogs.

Give your Cat its own Territory 

Use vertical space that your dog cannot access. Creating a safe space for your cat.

Introduce their items before introducing them 

Use their scent to get each other use to each other safely

Take the Introductions Slowly 

Use high value treats for all animals involved. Mealtime with a separator is a great way to let them get used to each other. Use a leash as well once the barrier goes well. Just remember to go at the animals pace.

Keep Things Equal 

The quantity of toys and treats need to be purchased for the amount of animals you have. Make sure you spend time with both animals alone and together.

Train your Dog Well

Teaching your dog basic manners is key when you have them around other dogs or cats. Simple behaviors such as leave it, Out, Drop it and Place are great to start. 

Separate Their Things 

Give them both spaces that are just theirs to be in alone away from each other. Litterboxes should be only accessible for the cats.
