If you have allergies or your kids do and you are looking for a hypoallergenic dog, do not consider Goldendoodles. Goldendoodles are not Hypoallergenic. There is science behind this I promise. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog , although some individual dogs can cause fewer symptoms than others. Most Doctors are aware of this information and should never advise patients with allergies to dogs to get a dog. A study that was done determines that there was no difference in the amount of allergens dispersed in the home of a hypoallergenic dog and a non hypoallergenic dog. If you hear this from a breeder or dog industry person it is not true and is a marketing hyper or advertising claim.Â
What causes Allergens in dogs?
Although many people assume it is the dog’s fur or hair that caused the allergic reaction this is not the case. It is actually the protein found in the dogs saliva, skin and urine. So even hairless dogs can cause people to react.
10% of the population who have dog and cat allergies mainly suffer from sneezing and watery eyes when in the presence of them. However people with dog allergies may be more sensitive to some breeds then others. This is where the Goldendoodle fad started I believe.Â
Can you be Allergic to Goldendoodles?
The best way to figure this out is to get tested by an allergist and get specific details on which exact proteins you are allergic to. The good news is that many people who own Goldendoodles have no reaction to their Goldendoodles. But this is not the case with everyone.Â
Are Goldendoodles Shed Free?
No they are not. Goldendoodles are a mixed breed, so there is more variation among the breed. Some shed a lot like the golden retriever side, and others rarely do like the poodle side.
