Guest Greetings

When guests come over it is important to make sure to teach your dog how to be calm and respectful of your guests. This can be done by teaching a place behavior and keeping your dog on leash when people are over. Use preventative measures to ensure all parties are safe during guest greetings.

Why use a Leash?

This will help you control your dog and prevent any bad behaviors from happening such as jumping and mouthing. A standard 6 ft. slip lead is preferable to help with teaching leash pressure.

Teach a Place cue with Guest Greetings.

Sending your dog to a mat, bed or crate is a great behavior to teach your dog. Check out this blog post (link to post/ video about place) on how to teach a place.

Please remember good manners are skills that need to be practiced time and time again in order to be effective. This is as true for humans as it is for dogs. If you take ten minutes a day to train your dog on a particular skill, you and your dog will be rewarded many times over.

Other things to remember, the leash is your friend and a great under used management tool to avoid bad behaviors being displayed.

If you are struggling with having guests come over please contact me today and we can work on these behaviors to make having people over more enjoyable.
