Today I will share some tips and tricks to make bath time more enjoyable for all parties involved.Â
Before your dog gets wet:
- Get the right shampooÂ
- Stop the tears and wet ears (bland eye ointment and cotton balls in ears)
- Brush your dog – work through mats
- Stock your station – all parts are in arms reach
- Â Use my three-towel trick – one towel to put in the bottom of the tub to provide traction and prevent slipping. Second is an anti shake towel. The third is the drying towel. A big dog may need more than one drying towel.Â
- Prevent the drain from clogging, put a piece of steel wool in the drain to catch the dog hair.
- Put in a non slip surface- towel or non skid rubber mat.
- Go warm on the water – fill up prior to bringing your dog inas rushing water can add to their stress
Water Time:
Wet dog down to the skin, start shampooing at the neck and work your way down their body to tail and toes. Put a base at the skull to prevent hitchhikers, fleas and ticks running for hills.Â
Rinse, rinse, and rinse some more, using clean water from the tap. Get all the soap out and the coat and skin flushed to minimize flaking.Â
Drying Time:
Do not let him outside until he is dry, or they will roll in the dirt
Throw a towel over him like a horse blanket and use another one to dry the face, than the ears and the feet.
You can use a blow dryer if you dog will tolerate it
