In the First place it is important to note the Dog Training Industry is not as simply Black and White. As a result there are many tools and methods used by multiple trainers in this industry. In addition becasue Training Tools used in Dog Training varies so much make sure to do your research when looking into hiring a Dog Trainer.
As a trainer who predominantly uses positive based methods in my training session with clients I wanted to share the top Training tools used in Dog Training sessions with my clients. Of curse it is important to note every dog is different and training them may require different tools. In addition I have linked where I bought them. Easy Walk Harness Training Tool
The Easy Walk Harness is a popular training tool used in Dog training. It consists of a harness that clips in the front which not to mention helps control pulling on walks. This should be used when going out in public with your dog. Additionally having personal experience with this harness I highly recommend it to all clients. Mainly the ones who pull or react on leash. But using this tool depends on the dog’s prior training tools used or introduced and medical history.
Martingale Training Tool
The Martingale Collar is a great Training Tool used in Dog Training for dogs who are escape artists. Meaning they link to back out of collars or harnesses when in public. This collar prevents a dog from slipping out of it as it tightens as tension is put on it. This is a great tool for loose leash walking as well as it helps keep the dog aware of its presence to you.
Long Line (10-20ft) Training Tool
Long Line’s main purpose is for teaching dogs recall and off-leash skills. The tool is used to ensure the dog is held accountable for the behavior being asked of him.
Runner’s Leash Training Tool
A Runner’s Leash is a great Dog Training Tool. Used to help clearly communicate to your dog what you are asking without over-correcting with the leash. Mainly used to help owners and dogs get in sync when walking
Basic Flat 6 ft leash Training Tool
This is a necessity for anyone who owns or works with dogs. It is a standard flat leash. DO NOT USE RETRACTABLE LEASHES! This flat leash can vary in width based on the dog you are using it on. Also sold in 4 and 5 ft and works the same as a 6ft leash in training. Helps guide the dog and keep them within close proximity to you.
Treat Pouch or Fanny Pack
Training Pouches or Fanny Packs are a great Training tool used to hold treat, business cards, phone, keys and more. If your dog is not food motivated, bring a favorite toy such as a ball or tug toy.
Head Halter
These are great for larger breed dogs. They work similar to horse halters. They can be a danger if used wrong and can really damage your dogs neck so make sure to contact a professional trainer for help.
